Maurine Sutter

Artists Statement

Maurine Sutter was introduced to the traditional black and white darkroom in college by noted photographer Harold Feinstein and has pursued photography as a joyous experience ever since.  Showing amazing versatility in both subject matter and style, she has made images from the deserted dunes of Cape Cod to palatial Berkshire estates, describing ongoing projects as being on opposite sides of her home state of Massachusetts.

As an artist whose career has spanned tremendous change in the medium of photography, she uses both traditional and contemporary techniques to make her work.  Striving to remain true to the time honored tenets of photography as a fine art while embracing change, her goal.

Photographs by Sutter are included in the permanent collections of:
The Cape Cod Museum of Art,  The Provincetown Art Association & Museum  and
The Museum of Contemporary Art  at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, recently having acquisitioned work from the “Beachtrash” series.  (2016)
